Fate...such a funny word tossed about like one doesn't really understand it. Fate can choose or is it a human who chooses? Take that right turn and miss being hit by a bus. Accept that job interview and get your dream job but miss out on your soul mate. All choices attributed to Fate.
For Wizard and Witches choices can hold many meanings and those meanings can have far reaching consequences.
The choices made by one wizard or witch can affect them or many. Take for example the Boy Who Lived and how the choice of one dark wizard made a choice that became his undoing. Voldemort had two choices that night at the end of the first Wizarding War. He choose and gave rise to the person who would be his downfall. Neville Longbottom...a rather quiet boy who would rise to defeat him. This defeat was caused by a choice of between two children born on the same night. One Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom. He choose the Longbottoms and that one choice, or Fate, destroyed the wizard. He would go through many trials that would help create the young wizard that would again be Voldemort's undoing.
War is another choice that is made and some call it Fate as well. The war didn't leave everyone unscathed. The Weasley's lost their boy Percy. Albus Dumbledore was lost as well at the hands of Serverus Snape, but this was on the orders of Dumbledore. Tonks lost her love Lupin but was left with a child to raise. Sirius Black was injured and that allowed Bellatrix LeStrange to escape. Serverus Snape died and left a whole in someone's heart and a surprise behind as well. While most wouldn't consider a house elf a loss Dobby was killed a missed by the friends he had made. Lucious Malfoy was killed during the battle thus avoiding a sentence of Azkaban that would have killed anyways. Numerous Death Eaters, Order of the Phoenix, and wizards and witches were killed during the war. The biggest loss was not only the people but Hogwarts was destroyed. It took time but the school was rebuilt after the battle.
Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry was opened back up again. It took time but after a long rebuilding period the school is now opening back up to educate those fresh young minds thirsty for knowledge of witchcraft and wizardy. While it looks like the old Hogwarts but it is not quite the same. The halls are the same but the spells and such that have been restored through the works of the new Headmistress and a large magical community it became whole again. Headmistress McGonagall started to hire teachers again and she found very talented and skilled teachers. A majority were local and came with good credentials, some she recruited from overseas, and one was a recommendation.
The ministry was restructured as well with Kingsley Shacklebolt becoming the Minister of Magic. It was the logical and right choice to make he started to make things right during the rebuilding of Hogwarts. Once it was completed the letters started pouring out to summon magical students back to the school. It will open soon and the halls will be packed with fresh minds ready to learn.
There is a sickness festering within this world of magic. It is one that affects adults, only alumni of Hogwarts it seems, but those at St. Mungo's hospital first identified the sickness and has since been trying to find a remedy for it with no success. They don't know how it spawned or came into existence. They reported it to the Ministry and has since been quieted down so as not to worry the population of wizards and witches. They are trying to find the cause of this illness.
The worst part is that during the interceding years they have been rounding up the remaining Death Eaters but not all of them have been captured. They continue to work in Voldemort's name but their purpose is still unknown considering he is dead. Its a thorn that the Ministry is still hunting them while they deal with this new threat. The question is what is this new threat that has come to light versus the old one of Death Eaters. The only good news is the school has reopened.
There are questions that have not been asked but right now with all the trouble being stirred up by the Death Eaters they don't have time to ask those questions.
